On April 22, 2014 Parras Middle School in Redondo Beach participated in and won the grand prize of the Grades of Green’s Trash-Free Lunch Challenge.
The school won a $1000 grant from the Grades of Green organization (gradesofgreen.org), which is an environmental education non-profit sponsored by the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County. Grades of Green teaches students to reduce trash, be conscious of the environment, and to use recyclable materials instead of creating trash. The students’ enthusiasm is wonderful.
One of the best things about sending your kids to school in the South Bay is the continued effort that local schools make to be sustainable, to teach green concepts and ideas, and promote a healthy lifestyle. The Beach Cities are especially concerned with long-term sustainability and preserving the environment, as is evidenced by the recent award won by the Parras Middle School children.
