A recent article by Builder looked at 14 popular trends in new-home design. As long-time real estate agents in the South Bay, we can confirm that at least three of these have gained significant traction in our beach cities and beyond.
Creating a “Super Kitchen”
Gone are the days of a small, isolated kitchen used solely for the purpose of food preparation and storage. Today, spacious kitchens boast vast counter space and large islands that have become a hub of social activity within the house. The line between the kitchen and living and dining areas continues to blur, as new-home design opts for open floor plans over closed off rooms.
Blending the Outside With the Inside
Following the open floor plan mentioned above, new-home design brings the outside inside. Designing a home this way allows for excellent natural lighting, makes the home itself feel larger, and encourages use of private side and backyards. This layout is especially ideal for South Bay homeowners, as we’re lucky to have weather that lets us enjoy the outdoors year-round.
Building Bigger Media Areas
While we enjoy going outside, we also enjoy our movie nights and football Sundays. And we enjoy them with our friends and families. The ever-growing flatscreen TV has led to a need for more wall space and rooms that not only accommodate more people, but also allow them to sit far enough from the television for the experience to be enjoyable. For these reasons, it is not uncommon for a home theatre included in plans for new homes and those undergoing a significant remodel.
